About Us

Sun Quest Miniatures is a family operation that is managed by a Mother / Daughter team. The farm is located a couple of miles outside of Kuna, Idaho, which is only a half-hour drive from the Boise airport.
SQ Blazing Sunn and Starr-Syn (c) ny 1985We became involved in the horse industry in 1981 when we bought our first purebred Arabian Mare. Our farm name honors that first Arabian mare and her first foal, and is derived from the two separate farm names of ‘Starr Quest Arabians’ and ‘Blazing Sun Acres’. From that one mare and her foal, our love and knowledge of horses grew and we owe thanks to the many good friends who have helped us along the way.
In our many years with horses, Arabian, Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Appaloosa and Hannovarian breeds have blessed our farm with their presence. Currently we still keep a retired Appaloosa hunter/jumper on the farm when he is not out with trainers teaching younger students how to ride. Chicos Storm Cloud at age 25 (c) ny 2004
In 1995, after looking into alternatives to balance our family's medical needs with the desires of horse ownership, we acquired our first Miniature horse. After having her for a year, we made the decision to switch to breeding Miniatures because of their gentle, easy going attitudes. Knowing that we will always keep horses as long as the good Lord allows us to have that privilege, we are looking forward to many happy years with them.
SQ Desert Blossom and Chris (c) ny 2004All of our horses in our breeding program were choosen primarily for their loving disposition along with good conformation. The resulting foals are handled extensively from birth and are normally the first to come running to us for attention.
We strive to keep our number of horses small, so that each and every horse will get the attention and care that they require. We have a professional farrier trim our horse’s feet every six to eight weeks as we are firm believers in the saying of ";No Hoof, No Horse."; We also keep all of our horses current on their vaccines and deworming as well.

Further, all of our horses are currently socialized in a herd environment, including our stallions that are kept in a bachlor herd at all times. For us, this works out very well, and our Senior Stallions are proving to be a great baby sitter for our junior stallions and colts after weaning. We believe this helps to enhance the loving disposition of our horses and produces stallions that are mentally well balanced.
SQ Summer Gold Summer Copper and Chris (c) ny 2004
SQ High Plains Drifter and I (c) cb 2003It is great when visitors to our farm tell us that our horses are so loving, and we know that we are doing something right when the horses will stop eating and walk over to us to get attention.
Well, enough about us. Time to go hug a horse!
